TSheets: Power Over Space and Time!

I have never been so excited about a company

before

even trying their service or product until now. This company,

TSheets

, has a lot of enthusiastic employees who I've seen with a big, loud, and fun presence at the

Scaling New Heights

conference. And recently, I have enjoyed a cool hangout with Jessie, their Accountant Program Director, who showed me all the amazing features of TSheets in our

National Advisor Network

Phoenix Chapter meeting.

Never before have I thought about the lowly timesheet, even though I have been using QuickBooks Pro Timer a lot recently to keep track of a major development project where I need to time my work and have another QuickBooks company file open other than my own. So while having to export and import timer activities is not major, I am much more impressed with the capabilities of TSheets.

This is just a short list of what I am excited about that TSheets does:

  • Syncs with both QuickBooks for Desktop and QuickBooks Online.

  • Clock in by calling in, via text message, and even Twitter!

  • Both iOS and Android apps

  • An additional Crew Time Tracker mobile app

  • And even a GPS tracker to show your employees' location when they are on the clock!

I've finally tried this all out on their web-based site and on my Android smartphone. I love this app! And support was quick at getting me set up and tracking time in

no time.

It is very clear that this company loves their employees as their hard work and enthusiasm shows.

UPDATE:

Unfortunately, I found out that TSheets won't work for what I do specifically, which is start timing a job and pause and resume the clock multiple times during a day like I have been doing in QuickBooks Pro Timer. This is critical because I can't have multiple single-time entries exporting to QuickBooks that are billable as this would show up as multiple line items on my client's invoice for the same day. Since this is a known issue that a lot of people want, I am hoping that TSheets will implement it soon:

Love to see a pause button!

It makes sense to me that if there is key functionality in a QuickBooks single-time entry, then TSheets should include the same in their software, as this could be a deal killer for a lot of people, who would thus be unable to use it.

UPDATE 10-28-16:

TSheets added a break option a while back which works just like a pause button. They are amazing in that they are constantly looking at feedback and making improvements. More to come...!

SOS Inventory Saves QuickBooks Online!

I have been very impressed with the development of Intuit's QuickBooks Online product. They are moving very fast in trying to get new users of QuickBooks into the cloud. However, it seems like this offering is geared primarily to service-based industries and companies that need to track inventory will tend to avoid it because it still is missing Sales Orders and Item Receipts, features that those of us that have been using Premier or Enterprise versions of QuickBooks for the Desktop have been used to.

Fortunately, there is an app for that! I have tested SOS Inventory in conjunction with QBO and I must say that it works pretty well. I found it relatively easy to set up and use and I especially like the import and export functionality to get my item list into SOS. Of course, this app syncs with QBO so that all your customers and vendors are already there. You can track serial numbers, lot numbers, and create sales orders with easy to customize templates for emailing and printing. However,

there are some caveats!

If you have already been using Products in QBO, it is

very important

that you

turn off

"Quantity on Hand (Inventory tracking)" in the Preferences

AND

you

must

make all your existing products inactive. This is very important when sending a Bill to QBO when creating an Item Receipt in SOS, as a bill that is sent over from QBO uses the Inventory Asset account under Expenses and

does not

use the Product. However, if you use existing Products, even though you may have turned off inventory, an item receipt in SOS will send over a bill with both the Product and the Inventory Asset account when selecting a Purchase Order. This will double the value in the Inventory Asset account, which is VERY BAD from an accounting standpoint.

If you are considering using QBO and SOS for the first time, then this wouldn't be a problem, as long as you know how it works. And this is where having your Trusted QuickBooks ProAdvisor help you set this all up would be a very wise investment!

QuickBooks Billing Solutions Isn't Currently Available Through the Web Browser You're Using. SERIOUSLY?!

For the past couple of months, I have been getting this error when trying to check account activity with Billing Solutions, which opens up in a browser within QuickBooks:

QuickBooks Billing Solutions isn't currently available through the web browser you're using. In time, we hope to support all browsers to avoid this inconvenience.

For now, we hope you'll take the time to download a browser that does allow you to use QuickBooks Billing Solutions. We think you'll find that your time was well spent. You can download Microsoft Internet Explorer at

http://www.microsoft.com/ie/

.

Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm using QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 13.0 release R8 and Internet Explorer 10 (latest version). After submitting bug reports several times when this started, I finally decided to give them a call today. It turns out that they are finally aware of the problem, although there is NO KB listed neither in the above error message or on any of Intuit's web sites.

Apparently, the cause of the problem is that the latest release of QuickBooks (R8) is not compatible with IE 10. Unfortunately, the only current solution is to not only remove IE 10 and install IE 8 instead, but you also have to downgrade QuickBooks to the R6 release. That means a lot of uninstalling and reinstalling. NO THANK YOU! I will just wait until they have a fix in an upcoming release (hopefully, there will even be one!).

I just feel sorry for those users of Billing Solutions that are actually paying for it, unless they are getting it for free during this time. Otherwise, it would be very unfair to be required to downgrade just because Intuit made the problem in the first place.
